Dear colleagues,

We hope those of you who attended the Annual GAMM Meeting in
Lecce had a safe trip back home. We would also like to thank all
who participated actively in our section and the minisymposium
associated with our activity group.

In this newsletter we would like to provide a resume of our
activities at the GAMM Annual Meeting 2015, announce the annual
meeting of our activity group on "Variational Methods for Dynamic
Inverse Problems and Imaging" (28.-30.9. in Münster), let you know
about the latest call for nominations for GAMM Juniors, and inform
you about changes concerning our webpage. As usual, we also include
the new job openings and conferences at the end.

Our Section at the GAMM Annual Meeting 2015

With 3 keynote lectures and 32 invited/contributed talks, our
section was one of the largest of the GAMM Meeting. The talks
presented various aspects of mathematical signal- and image
procesing, varying from compressed sensing to variational methods
in image processing to applied harmonic analysis approaches. Our
section was also attended by several additional participants from
other groups. Thanks to Benjamin Berkels (Aachen), Stefan Kunis
(Osnabrück), and Gianluca Vinti (Perugia) for organizing a great

Also in the Young Researcher's Minisymposia related to our research
area, namely "Co-/Sparsity, Inverse Problems and Compressive
Imaging" organized by Stefania Petra (Heidelberg) and Andreas
Weinmann (München) a bouquet of interesting novel ideas were
presented. Also here, thanks to the two organizers for their great

Call for Nominations for GAMM Juniors

The call for nominations just came out:
By now you should have been informed about this call be the GAMM
representative of your university. If not, please check with

GAMM Juniors are young researchers and members of the GAMM and
are characterized by an excellent diploma/master and/or PhD thesis in
the fields of Applied Mathematics or Mechanics. For more
information on the group of GAMM juniors, please see, e.g.,

MSIP Webpage

Since one week, we have a new webpage:, which is now based on a content
management system. This makes the handling easier for us. Thanks to
Mijail Guillemard (Berlin) for the development of it!

Finally, if you have any suggestions or comments, we would be very happy if you could let us know.

With best regards,

Martin Burger and Gitta Kutyniok
